Republic of Chad - TT8KO

Single-op DXpedition, 09 - 21 Oct 2018

DXpedition to N'Djamena, Chad, took place exactly 24 hours between Oct 09- Oct 10.

During the 24h I had some fantastic moments. I started to plan this trip early 2018 just after I returned form 6O6O Somalia. It took many hundred hours to plan, all documents were in place and approved by several authorithies including the Ministry and the security police. It was some amazing days in Chad which I will never forget. I never saw this coming how this trip ended.

During the 24h I logged 2135 Qs which are all uploaded to clublog. All QSOs was uploaded a few days after DXpedition end, some upfront sponsors even got their QSO confirmed in LoTW during the DXped. What happened after the 24h with the interrogations by the security police, shut down of my station, the police order that prevented me from leaving Chad and finally how the Norwegian Embassy solved this case have been published in a short story on this webpage. I would like to thank all those who wrote hundreds of emails to me during my stay or spent 3 min or hours chatting with me on social media every day. It was really appreciated, and kept my spirit up. Thanks!

Because of what happened I had some additional expenses due to rebooking my flight twice and extending the hotel stay. Expenses that are not covered by my travel insurance.

If you would like to help me offset some of the additional 2500 USD I really appreciate a donation via my paypal kenneth@opskar.no or use the Donate button below.

==================

Chad is ranked pretty high up worldwide on lower bands, even higher for NA west coast. It's been a few years since the last single-op activation, and some more years since a group activated this entity. A couple of single op operations are not valid for DXCC. I have already received the LoTW certificate.

The QTH will be a hotel in N'Djamena. The beam and dipoles will be up about 25-30 meter. There are space for low band verticals and receiving antennas.

QTH: N'Djamena, LOC JK72

I will use the following equipment.

  • 1 x Radio Elecraft K3 (upgraded)
  • 1 x Radio KX3 as backup
  • 1 kW amplifier

RX antenna system

I have various RX antennas with me.

  • 200 m classic beverage system sponsored by Remoteqth.com.They have great products! Check out their website. The beverage will be in direction NA/EU.

The beverage will be installed about 100m/350 feet away from the hotel compound, it looks promising based on supplied photos.

  • K9AY loop system (4 directions) also made by remoteqth.com

I have a custom made controller (#001) to connect both K9AY loop and beverage system.

  • 75 Ohm RX coax sponsored by DX Engineering
  • Homebrew 75 ohm BOG system (2 direction)

Modes: CW (+ maybe SSB). No digi mode planned.

Online clublog during DXped dependent on wifi.
